Harrisonburg, VA - A harrowing incident took place on Interstate 81 near Harrisonburg on Sunday at approximately 1:30 PM, when a Virginia State Trooper was attacked by a motorist in the median of the Interstate highway. Breaking Through was contacted by eyewitnesses who watched the violent assault unfold but were unable to help due to the flow of traffic. The altercation reportedly occurred in a median pass-through near exit 143.

According to witnesses, the Trooper was pushed to the ground by the motorist, who then attempted to flee the scene. As the Trooper tried to regain control, he was dragged and presumably thrown from the suspect's vehicle. Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson and the Virginia State Police confirmed that the incident happened, but would not comment on details of what occurred at this time.

Rockingham County units were called in to assist the State Police, but it remains unclear whether the suspect was captured or their current condition. The Virginia State Police have promised to release more information today, and Breaking Through will bring all updates as we receive them.

Fortunately, the Trooper involved in the incident suffered only minor injuries, according to the state police.
