In a shocking development, former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, claiming that he expects to be arrested next week due to criminal indictments in New York City. The claim comes as a New York prosecutor is considering charging Trump in connection with hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. However, no official announcement has been made regarding any plans for an indictment.
The case involving Daniels is the longest-running of all the criminal investigations surrounding Trump, dating back to 2016. In his post on Saturday morning, the former president cited "illegal leaks" as the source of his expected arrest on Tuesday and called for protests in response. Trump, who has announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race, defended himself by stating that he had not committed any crime. He did not specify the charges he anticipates but accused the Manhattan District Attorney's Office of being "corrupt & highly political."
When contacted, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office declined to comment on whether it would soon be pursuing an arrest warrant for Trump. However, the Associated Press reported that law enforcement officials in New York are discussing security preparations in anticipation of a potential indictment in the coming weeks.
These security precautions may be even more important today, considering the former President's calls for protests upon his arrest. If the arrest occurs, Trump would become the first former president to be indicted in U.S. history, marking a significant and unprecedented moment in American politics.
