Skeletal Remains Unearthed at Residential Building Site in Fishersville, VA

Written by: Sam Orlando

FISHERSVILLE, Va. — In a grim discovery, skeletal remains have been found at a residential construction site in the 1600 block of Tinkling Springs Road, Fishersville, VA, according to a press release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrol deputies responded to the site at 9:33 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, following a report from a contractor who was digging footers for a new home when they stumbled upon what appeared to be human remains.

Investigators from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Appomattox were dispatched to the scene. The ongoing investigation will include an examination of the remains by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke once they have been excavated.

At this stage, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has noted that these remains do not appear to be related to any active missing person cases in the county, specifically stating that they are not believed to be related to the case of 3-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell, who has been missing.

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office, which has faced criticism in recent times over transparency issues, stated that they will update the community as soon as more information becomes available. However, they have stated that no additional details will be released at this time.

This unexpected discovery raises concerns in a community already anxious about transparency issues surrounding the Sheriff's Office. The nature and identity of the skeletal remains, along with how long they have been there, will be the focus of the investigation, the outcomes of which will be anxiously awaited by Fishersville residents.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
